Kurz Industrial Solutions Pavement Pounder this Thursday at Wisconsin International Raceway!

Posted on by Kurz Industrial Solutions

Be sure to come out to Wisconsin International Raceway this Thursday, July 19th, to cheer on Jesse Oudenhoven and the rest of the IMCA Sport Mods Series drivers in the Kurz Industrial Solutions Pavement Pounder.

Currently at WIR, a different driver has won and nobody has won two feature races. Could this be Jesse Oudenhoven’s chance to make history?

Jesse, Kurz Industrial-sponsored driver, has had a great year thus far, coming off of a huge win two weeks ago with the Super Late Models.

Here is a race recap, as told by Kurz Motor Application Specialist, Wayne Rihn:

32 cars showed up on July 5th for qualifying and Jesse ran a 19.739 which qualified 12thon time and made the race.  The top-12 cars were only .397 seconds apart on qualifying.  The top-20 were only .5 seconds apart and shows you just how competitive this class has become.

At Wisconsin International Raceway, the fastest qualifier has to role a large wooden dice.  If he rolls a 1, he would start second and the 14thperson would move to the front and start 1st.  Jeff Van Oudenhoven, who is a 5-time track champion, qualified 1stand rolled a 4.  This put Jesse on the pole in the outside row for the feature race.

In the Heat race, Jesse got around Sawyer Effertz and took the lead to win the heat.

For the teams that did not make the top-14 qualifying time, they have to race in the heat races and the semi-feature to race their way in.  They only allow 20 cars for the feature race, so 12 drivers did not make it.

When the race started, Jesse was able to pull out front after a couple of laps and stayed in front of everyone for the first 18 laps of the 35-lap race when someone spun out.  For the restart, you get to pick a lane.

Jesse took the outside lane and passed Effertz again for the lead.

Now, with 12 laps to go, another restart and another pick-a-lane.  Keep in mind, Jeff Van Oudenhoven is gaining positions fast and is on the hunt for a 6thtrack win.

Jesse picks the outside lane again and Jeff Van Oudenhoven is starting behind him.

At the restart, two laps go by and Jesse is out front and pulling away from the pack when another caution flag comes out.  This time it’s a single file start.

The car was on rails and Jesse pulled away from Van Oudenhoven by several car lengths for the victory!

International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) designed a new lower cost class of SportMod cars in 2004 to complement their Modified division. The division is divided into Northern SportMods and Southern SportMods divisions. The Northern SportMods have a few small differences from the Southern SportMods in the body of the car. These cars are a somewhat smaller and have less powerful engines.[9] They can be differentiated from IMCA Modifieds because the car has a break in the body that extends from the rear roof to the spoiler at the rear.

Wisconsin International Raceway is home to multiple stock car and drag strip racing events annually. Take a look at last year’s highlights here, and also be sure to check out their upcoming race schedule
